Oldies, and whats happening with them

alright, soooooooo, don't stop believing is the big love anthem from the seventies right now. i think thats pretty well established. i mean, ugly singer, questionable subject matter, slow crescendo, its all there. yep, don't stop believing is at the height of replays right now. so of course, its had the crap remixed out of it, and bmore was on top of it. snag this here gem by dyyl. which i assume is pronounced like Tommy Pickle's lil bro.

nexxxxxxxxxxt, is my fav. remix of the night is one of your love by the outfield. i also feel this song is on the rise, the subject matter is off the charts creepy, the hair of these dudes is epictacular (see above), and the yelps! oh the yelps.... the remix is also by a guy you will be hearing more about shortly, ToySelectah. he blends mexican and bounce music with tremendous results all while letting the songs do the songing.

Finally, this song isn't quite a remix, but i sometimes wish there was one out there so i could blast it at the end of the night (i'll play it anyway, but anyway), its a touch less creepy than the other too songs, but a tad odd in premise (rest stops), but full of heart and back up singers. its also one of my favorite songs period, so give it a listenarino.

whats our problem?

honestly, i've been wanting to write much more than i've had the time to, but i've been biding my time on this one. so i guess i'll start off with just a couple musings on the stellar new record Merriweather Post Pavilion. Its just about perfect. And thats all i can say. so here we will go into the meat of the post. my girls remixes.

well, i take that back, enjoy the original video first!

okay, no more playing. first off, i'd like to just give a nod to my two personal faves. first is the mexicans with guns RMX. why this one? (for the record, i had originally spoke of this because i think this is the only remix that manages to keep the feel of the original while successfully changing the genre. its also the remix that lets the vocals take the lead in the middle range (perhaps take the lead is inappropriate, the vocals kind of haunt the song, staying the center, but not really at the expense of any other track), while overhauling the bassline and ratcheting up the tempo. its really fantastic, and i think is quietly the best of the remixes.

Next up here is a close second, the Gigamesh Proper House Remix. listen and be awed at how they change the song, and the results not be at all calamitous. they play with with chord structure, and it makes the songs both airy and happy, they also stop the song again after AC kinda does it, and it works out beautifully. adding in a pretty fantastic line that works wonders with the original.

Next up is the very same tune that seems to have set the AC world on fire, and if you decide to take the advice of the majority over my own, i wouldn't blame you one little bit. i do like how they brought out the hat sample and made up their own postal service-esque rhythm below it.

I think if i had to pick a moment from this entire blog to pick as my absolute favorite, it would be at 3:40 from this track. the passing of the torch from one song to another is sublime and you really begin to see why people draw so many parallels between the two.
