some new jens

jens lekman is basically my favorite. he's funny, he's sweet, he's utterly heartbreaking and if my heart could write songs they'd prolly sound an awful lot like anything off of night falls over kortedala. he's also brutally honest. he wants to burn down his home, he hates his crime ridden city, but he's scared, and he really wants to impress this girl. WHATEVER WILL HE DO WITHOUT A LIGHTER? must have done something right, the past perspective gives us this indication.

p.s. jens was at sxsw watching comedians the whole time i was seeing stupid bands. stupid me.

emil & friends

you know this guy, he went vroom vroom in speed racer, was a nice young'n in Milk, fell in love with a girl next door, and had a dangerous life as an altar boy; any guessers? you prolly got it right, its emile hirsch! and he's got this new project out called emil & friends. its not too groundbreaking (no songs of his own) but he does do some pretty sweet remixes and covers. i especially like these two, they're fun, and in my opinion pretty daring. its not everyday you hear someone completely re-imagine how a michael jackson could sound, or take one of the bigger singles of the year and turn it into this odd but refreshing mix of rock, disco, and electronica. you may not have sold me yet, but this is a fantastic start. and yes, if there is a superlatives at the end of the year, i would imagine that this wins as "most likely to appear in an issue of nylon."

p.s. emil and friends has apparently denied being associated with emile hirsch, that being said, there is so much cheekiness going on i'm gonna go ahead and go with my original statement. emile is a trained musician with a musical history and the dude is funny as shit, so yeah.

warm heart of africa

so, the whole world has been going coocoo for this pretty good collaboration between panda bear and atlas sound called walkabout. but being the blog we are, i thought we might look at a different huge collabo between some other big names. ezra koenig of the now huge vampire weekend and the very best did a sweet song called "warm heart of africa." just listen to it and wonder why everyone else isn;t listening to it, then fix it.

OCDJ

ocdj is somewhat of an anomally. he runs with that crazy as hell crew that guys like dan deacon run in but he does his stuff with a uniquly baltimore club feel, WHAT GIVES? listen and it makes sense and totally lives up to his one man genre of candy crunk. its 8-bit crazy and bmore fresh. give it a listen with this rich boy infused jammy jam.

more huger hits

here's perhaps the mosty universal jam we've put up on pyroglyphics, its the bird peterson of project pats ubsurdulous hit keep it hood. listen to that awesome bassline (i'll admit, i lose it whenever pat comes back after oj's verse. i'm gonna throw up a second track because i think the spirit of america is still in the air after the fourth, still by bird peterson, its him provin he's still in support of the USAAAAA. ironically with a protest song, but a badass protest song so its all good.
